FASHOLA ABSENT AT LAGOS POLL                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                           

- The minister of works, housing and power, Babatunde Fashola did not turn up at his ward during the Lagos state local government elections

- The national leader of the APC, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, cast his vote at his polling unit 047, Sunday Adigun Street, Alausa, Ikeja,

- Governor Akinwunmi Ambode also voted at his polling unit in Epe

The minister of works, housing and power, Babatunde Fashola, did participate in the local government elections conducted in Lagos state on Saturday, July 22.

 It was noticed that former governor was absent at Ward G3, Unit 002, State Senior Grammar School, Itolo, where he normally cast his vote.

Reporters who waited for the minister to arrive his polling unit amid the heavy rain were left disappointed as he did not show up till voting and counting ended.

Efforts to reach Hakeem Bello, spokesperson to the minister to know why his boss did not come to Lagos to vote proved abortive as several calls made to his phone were not picked.

However, other top leadership of the APC did cast their votes in their respective ward.

National leader of the party, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, who was believed to have travelled out came back to cast his vote at his polling Unit 047, Sunday Adigun Street, Alausa, Ikeja, while Governor Akinwunmi Ambode also voted at his polling unit in Epe.

The first civilian governor of Lagos state, Alhaji Lateef Jakande similarly came out to vote at the council election.

Meanwhile, the Lagos state local government elections in most polling units closed at 3.00 pm on Saturday, July 22, and reports indicate that counting of votes have commenced since then.

The ruling All Progressives Congress has so far had a sweeping victory at the polls.

For example, In Lagos Island local government, APC won with 14,692 votes while PDP clinched 925 votes, with the Labour Party taking third place with 1211 votes.

These results which are yet to be confirmed by the Lagos State Independent Electoral Commission (LASIEC), the electoral body in charge of the election, shows the APC is in the lead in many local governments.
