Buhari orders emergency response as flood renders over 100,000 homeless in Benue

- President Muhammadu Buhari has expressed concern over the report he received concerning how flood is ravaging Benue state
- Buhari, who is in Katsina for the Sallah, ordered emergency officials to act immediately
- The president sympathised with those whose properties were destroyed as a result of the disaster
President Muhammadu Buhari has asked emergency workers in the country to immediately proceed to flood-ravaged areas of Benue state with personnel and resources.
Buhari, who is currently in Katsina state for the Sallah celebration, said he was concerned about the situation in the north-central state as over 100,000 people were rendered homeless.
A statement obtained from the presidency by GO VIRAL NAIJA stated that the president said he received the reports of the flood which affected 12 local governments with great concern.
“Consequently, the president has directed the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) to immediately mobilize personnel and resources to come to the aid of the victims of the flooding.
 
“The president is closely monitoring the situation, and will be receiving regular updates on the scale of the disaster, as well as the Federal Government's humanitarian response.
“The president extends his sympathies to the government and people of Benue state, and assures that the Federal Government will make available any assistance needed to enable the affected communities cope with and surmount the impact of the flooding,” the statement by Shehu Garba, Buhari’s media aide, said.
It was gathered that some parts of the state were subjected to flooding due to heavy rainfall recently.
