S/East crisis: Northern governors thank state residents for not attacking Igbos

- As tensions continue to build up in the south east, the governors of the 19 northern states have thanked their residents for not carrying out attacks against Igbos residing in the north
 
- The governors called on all residents to keep displaying patriotism, and see themselves as equal, regardless of religion or tribe
 
- They urged all residents to keep displaying patriotism; but stated that security measures had been put in place to forestall any outbreak of violence
 
Northern residents have been congratulated by their state governors, under the aegis of the Northern Governors Forum, for not carrying out any attack(s) against Igbos resident in the north.
 
According to reports, the governors made their comments on the heels of the clashes between members of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) and soldiers in Abia state.
 
GO VIRAL NAIJA gathers that in a statement released via the special adviser on communications and strategy to the Borno state governor Kashim Shettima, Malam Isa Gusau, the 19 northern governors stated that no law abiding citizen should be punished just because they happen to be living or doing business in any part of the country.
 
The governors urged their residents to sustain the peace.
 
They acknowledged that there was a spark of violence in Plateau, but noted that it has quickly been nipped in the bud by their colleague, Governor Simon Lalong.
 
The governors called on all residents to keep displaying patriotism, and see themselves as equal, regardless of religion or tribe.
 
They however stated that security measures had been put in place to forestall any outbreak of violence.
 
While commiserating with those who may have been affected by the crisis in the south-east, the governors urged all Nigerians to support and promote peace as they noted that it was only under an atmosphere of peace that Nigeria’s collective vision could be actualized.  
 
Governor Kashim Shettima of Borno state, who doubles as the chairman of the NGF, described the agitation for restructuring, creation of a Biafran state and the Fulani herdsmen’s attacks on communities, as vices threatening the unity of Nigeria.
